Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings 20 truffles

Ingredients

  • 10 oz dark chocolate chopped
  • cup heavy cream hot
  • 1 tsp orange extract
  • For the Orange Sugar:
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Melt the Chocolate: In a heat-proof bowl, melt the dark chocolate in the microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  • Make the Ganache: Whisk in the hot heavy cream until the mixture is smooth. Mix in the orange extract.
  • Refrigerate: Place the bowl in the fridge and let the chocolate mixture firm up until it’s pliable, about 30 minutes to an hour (it should be like fudge consistency).
  • Prepare the Orange Sugar: While the chocolate cools, combine the orange zest and granulated sugar in a bowl. Rub the zest into the sugar with your fingers until the sugar is infused with the orange oils and turns a light orange color.
  • Shape the Truffles: Once the chocolate has firmed, scoop out small portions using a cookie scoop or spoon and roll them into balls. If the mixture is too firm, let it sit at room temperature until it softens slightly.
  • Coat in Orange Sugar: Roll each truffle in the prepared orange sugar to coat.
  • Store: Store the truffles in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for longer storage.

Notes

  • Make sure the chocolate is fully melted before mixing in the cream to get a smooth ganache texture.
  • You can adjust the amount of orange extract to your taste.
  • For a festive touch, you can also roll the truffles in cocoa powder or colored sprinkles.
